Dove Review

This is an inspiring movie to watch! You may cry, you may shake your head in wonder at the singular determination in this young collegiate basketball player named Cory Weissman, but one thing you will do is be inspired. Cory scored a thousand points in high school and can’t wait to begin racking up the points for his Gettysburg college team. However, a stroke suddenly strikes the young man and totally blows his plans into chaos. His determination in dealing with surgeries, rehab, seizures and setbacks is amazing. His courage is to be commended, especially when his girlfriend, Ally (Cassi Thomson), admits she is selfish and can’t imagine taking care of a disabled person for long. However, another young beautiful girl named Jess (Hannah Marks) is in Cory’s future, and she has more of the same kind of make-up as his personality. David Henrie is both terrific and remarkable in his role as Cory Weissman, as is Jean Louisa Kelly who plays his mother Tina and Beau Beau Bridges as Coach George Petrie.

Although this movie is not intended for very young children, due to the seizures and a few seriously dramatic moments, it is a wholesome movie and we recommend it happily for all ages. The fact that this amazing story is based on true life events make it even more remarkable. Cory’s goal to not go scoreless through college but to play basketball again is a theme of perseverance in the movie. We are very pleased to award this DVD our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal. I would give a thousand to one odds that your family will enjoy this movie!
