Dove Review

Pocket Angel is an amusing story about some bumbling crooks who kidnap a boy, Matthew (Jouslein Roustand), who more often than not gets the better of them. He kicks them, keeps getting away and even drives away from them at one point in their own truck! The story has a spiritual spin too as a young angel in training, Paz (Mary Stevens), has the potential to help Matthew and his mother, Amanda Simpson (Hanny Saenz), but Paz keeps jumping ahead of her teacher, angel Samuel (Timothy Bottoms).

The lead villain, Victor (Bret Davidson), constantly slaps his bumbling assistants in the head, Carlos (Jorge Ortin) and Juan (Jose Luis Cordero), while reminding them what “knuckleheads” and “idiots” they are. Paz convinces a few people to take her “pocket angel” which she says will protect them, but actually she and Samuel wind up being the protectors in trying to get Matthew back safely. There are several scenes of slapstick and physical humor and the villains definitely provide comic relief.

Rest assured this one will have a happy ending. Dan Haggerty (“Grizzly Adams” himself) shows up in the beginning scene of the film. We are happy to award this movie our Dove Seal for all ages, while noting some mild language. Your kids will enjoy seeing the kid get the best of the villains.
