As I have mentioned before, occasionally I will walk out on a film. I get that nudging I believe to be from the Holy Spirit. After an hour and fifteen minutes, I’d had enough of this one. If there is some valuable message to be obtained by the viewer, he must sit through perversion and blasphemy to get it. The film is not as exploitive visually as it is verbally, but it is one long sexual conversation between the two lead characters, a grieving father and his amoral son. The following led me to leave the theater: While the corpse is laid out on the bed, the son glibly speaks to his father about his parents’ sexual relationship. Later, he sleeps with his disheartened father, and “comforts” him. We do not see the act, but it is discussed and the conversation continues, discussing men’s hidden desire to sleep with their father. That scene set the tone. The characters are Godless, selfish, and lacking in morality. Loveless, smarmy, and boring, it proves that a movie doesn’t have to be long to seem that way.

Want a little secret as to what I do after exposing myself to this type of abusive hedonism? I get into my car and pray, asking the Lord to replace the images and messages with those that will uplift my spirit and draw me closer to Him. I don’t say that piously, nor do I wish anyone to assume I’m a milquetoast. But since my work is dedicated to the Lord and meant to be a service to Christian families, I think it would be foolish not to ask for His insight and healing. Then, to sweep the mind, I switch on the radio or cassette, usually the classics. Sometimes Sinatra – God works in mysterious ways!
