The story evolves around Jonny’s mishaps on various jobs: door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman, flight attendant, and ultimately 1st mate on Captain Squid’s boat. The captain has already lost one 1st mate in his quest for the treasure. The treasure is also sought by a king and his henchman. They hope to steal the treasure from Captain Squid and also find a scepter that they will bring back to the King. One of the head henchmen is played by Richard Moll, who most people will remember as the very tall lovable bailiff in the situational comedy “Night Court.” He and his cohorts are following the captain and Jonny around in very obvious ways.
In their quest for the treasure, there are many more ‘uh-ohs’ along the way; specifically, the scene when Jonny buys ice cream and offers cones to three extremely well-endowed young women. I watched this film with my seven year old nephew and he found it fun to watch and he liked the elements of the character generation of the giant squid, the Claymation, as well as the antics of the clumsy and obvious looser Jonny. Teenagers and adults will find the antics of Jonny a bit over the top, much like Gilligan on “Gilligan’s Island,” but even more so. All in all, “Uh-Oh!” is a cute comedy that is perfect for after school viewing for elementary age kids.
