Animated Hero: George Washington

As the symbol of republicanism in practice, George Washington embodied American values and was seen across the world as the symbol of the new nation. Even today, scholars rank him among the three greatest U.S. Presidents. During Washington's funeral oration, Henry Lee said that of among all Americans, President Washington was "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Even to this day, George Washington is referred to as “the Father of his Country.

Dove Review

This thirty minute animated episode about George Washington is educational for young and old alike. It would be helpful to have some knowledge of who George Washington was as well as some general information about the Revolutionary War before viewing this film because there is not much history or explanation given. However, the film does touch upon some aspects not often discussed, such as the British hiring German fighters or why exactly the soldiers had a hard time receiving supplies in the field.

There was very little objectionable material in this episode. There were multiple shots of soldiers with guns and two scenes of men quietly dying with no blood. At one point Washington discovers blood in the snow but that is the only instance of blood throughout. In addition, there is a small scuffle between men. Still, it is wholesome enough to be approved for all ages by Dove.
