Monsters vs. Aliens

When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

Dove Review

I knew I was going to enjoy this film from the beginning. The DreamWorks company logo comes up and shows the young boy fishing as he sits on the moon. Suddenly a space ship comes along and sucks him up! There was a lot of laughter at the screening I attended of this movie. There are great characters in the film including Bob, who is really a blob and who is attracted to a dish of jello! There is a live cockroach named Dr. Cockroach who is a professor who can run swiftly when troubles are around, and Link, who is supposedly a missing link but actually looks like nothing ever seen before. In addition, a woman named Susan is exposed to an alien element and grows enormously and joins the monster team in order to defeat the aliens. She becomes known as Ginormica.

There are several scenes of battles and the aliens fighting the monsters, but the monsters, aliens and situations are so outlandish that no child who attended the screening seemed frightened in the least bit. The military is involved but again in outlandish settings. There are a few jokes for the adults as well as the kids. The characters, action, and humor really shine in this film. There were adults all around me laughing along with the kids and me. How could the viewer not enjoy a movie in which the blue blob known as Bob falls for a dish of jello? The Vulcan “Live long and prosper” hand sign shows up as well in the movie. This is one for the entire family and we are pleased to award this film our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.
