This film features some important virtues as it focuses on faith, growing in maturity, and the battle between good and evil. The good and bad guys are easy to distinguish in the movie. There is plenty of action to watch on-screen as well. For the fans of martial arts fighting, there is plenty of it. The dialog is a bit lacking in various scenes. In one scene one character says, “Everything happens for a reason. I got that from watching daytime TV.” Shakespeare it isn’t.
One of the film’s strengths, it’s action-packed martial arts, is also something we need to note. For those who do not care for a lot of martial arts or the supernatural mystic elements in the fights, this film may not be for you. There are a couple of scenes which includes characters starting a flame on a candle with mystic martial arts abilities. They also leap high and use “energy” strikes, and they fight in the midst of flames as well. However, it is nice to see a film which had rather tame language compared to so many new releases in the recent past.
While the mystic elements are present, they do not cross over our line of acceptability. We are therefore happy to award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to this picture. It was nice to see life after death treated with respect in this film, although the movie falls short of explaining anything about faith in God, choosing rather to concentrate on overcoming in life by believing in one’s self and abilities. This film shows good triumphing in the end and that is always nice to see on the big screen.
