Message to Myself: Overcoming a Distorted Self-image

If you have been wounded by opinions and words of others, you may have internalized the sadness and anger those hurtful messages caused - even if you were hurt years ago. This could be the source of low self esteem, poor concentration, difficulty making decisions, and hopelessness- even feelings of insignificance and isolation. Ignoring these feelings will not make them go away.

Dr. Helen McIntosh, a licensed counselor, has experienced the emotional anguish and devastation that past hurts can cause and she suffered the painful consequences for many years. In her book, Messages to Myself, she shares with you methods that you can start using immediately to change the messages you give yourself everyday.

Dove Review

Children and adults alike have problems with self image and self esteem. This book tackles those questions about one’s image and how it got out of control, then gives informative ways to put one’s life in a more positive self image. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it comes to self esteem and image. Looking at your thoughts and feelings, some that have come from what other people say, do or how they act toward you, this book gives the reader encouragement on how to sort out your thoughts, with verses from the Bible that God has given us and it focuses too on prayer.

Like most most self-help books they do not replace professional therapy when needed, but help with the encouragement of everyday life in relationships, our own healthier mental being and any addiction recovery. Dove awards the Dove “Family Approved” Seal for 12+. Note: although everyone’s self esteem is important this book may be hard for younger children to understand but could be used as an informative guide to help them.
