Jada: Edited

Jada is a faith based story of a woman whose life becomes chaotic when her husband is killed in a car accident. Her once-comfortable middle-class lifestyle comes crashing down when an insurance company labels the accident a suicide and refuses to pay her benefits as the survivor.

As a result, Jada and her two teenage children, Jasmine and Jamal, become homeless and have to live in their car until the pastor of a local church, the Rev. Terence Mayweather, comes to their aid. The family finds shelter in a low-income housing project, but Jamal becomes entangled in the neighborhood gang. Throughout the ordeal, Jada's unwavering faith in God keeps the family together. An unlikely savior arrives in the person of Simon Williams, who has been released from prison on the Reverend Mayweather's strong recommendation. Simon becomes a mentor to Jamal in an attempt to steer him away from the gang, but tensions are high between Simon and the head of the gang and Jamal is faced with a life changing decision. Will he choose the streets or will he choose God?

Dove Review

“Jada” is a moving recount of a young families’ struggles as they adjust to the death of a father and the resulting loss of their home. Financial struggles face many families, often displacing them from the lives that they used to know.

In this film, Jada faces many challenges as she tries to keep her son and daughter safe in their new life in a not-so-nice neighborhood in East LA. The situations portrayed are indeed stark and rough but not unrealistic in any way. This is a movie with a strong message of the need for fathers and mentoring of our youth. While Dove could not award our Seal to the original movie due to the language used, we can award the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12 and over to this edited version
