Influence of the Bible

Join Christian historian David Barton as he reveals the Bible's profound influence on America in this eye-opening episode of Barton's seven-part history series. While past generations viewed God's Word as a practical guidebook for directing everyday life, its impact goes largely unrecognized today. Here, Barton traces back the Bible's cultural significance, highlighting how it helped shape not only government, law, and education, but also America's free enterprise system, social services, and views on private property.

Covering four centuries, this 90-minute documentary logically lays out the dramatic difference the Bible has made on our nation's life and culture. This DVD can be purchased individually or as part of The American Heritage Collection: Seven DVD Set, which explores America's godly heritage, the principles of a successful government, and how Christians can act upon their convictions to impact our nation today.

Dove Review

Historical and Christian, David Barton narrates and hosts this wonderful DVD which unashamedly showcases the influence of the Bible in our country since it was founded in 1776.

The bedrock principles which first defined our nation are explored and the roots all lead back to the Bible. Many interesting things are shared such as the fact that many prominent statesmen read the entire Bible through in a year on a regular basis as they served our country.

Baron takes the viewer to Exodus 18 and reveals that certain laws in our society have their roots in this chapter. He elaborates on the pilgrims coming to this land in 1620 on the Mayflower and how they longed for freedom to worship God, for racial equality and fairness for all. Barton also speaks of the New England Primer and of the biblical illustrations in the book.

A letter from Benjamin Franklin reveals his belief that whenever God is consulted, providence comes. We also learn that the founders and leaders of the American Bible Society were educators, attorneys, and not just ministers alone. Noah Webster and the influence of his dictionary and the Bible verses he used as examples are explored here. We hear of John Quincy Adams’ letters to his son about how the Bible, when applied to life situations, could be powerful.

It is without reservation and with great happiness we award this quality DVD our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages. Every family in America would profit by viewing this documentary!
