The animation is breathtaking in this episode titled “Sea Food” on this DVD. The scenes feature vivid animation of predatory creatures such as sharks and various types of fish and underwater life. Many of these creatures, such as the sharks, go after their prey with large teeth close-ups on screen. It is dramatic but might scare very young viewers. Caution is advised. In addition, a mean middle-aged character smacks a few boys around when they don’t measure up in catching Julius the shark and his sea mates when they take a journey in a moving contraption. The mean man gets his in the end.
This nicely animated film has almost non-stop action, but due to constant predatory escapades and the treatment of the boys, it may not be for everyone. It is a marvel to look at and we learn that a shark refuses to eat his friends, even when hungry, so loyalty is a nice theme in the movie. Pup, one of the main characters, is grabbed by a bad guy but Julius the shark is determined to get him back. We gladly award it our Dove Seal for ages twelve plus.
