Tavern keeper and justice of the peace Silas Rhodes (James Riley), alongside British deserter Bob Wheedle (Nathan Kershaw) lead a band of rebel underground soldiers known as "The Sons of Liberty," in acts of midnight justice against royal officials attempting to enforce unpopular law, in the pre-revolutionary New England township, Courage, New Hampshire. Tales depicting daily life in this 18th century early American township mixed with the turmoil of pre-revolutionary war in accurate historical detail, provide a storyline filled with intrigue, politics, family-life and romance in this colonial period drama series.

Episode 2: In August of 1770, Justice Silas Rhodes travels to Portsmouth for the execution of two notorious criminals; Royal Governor Wentworth details the “light hand” needed for ruling the New Englanders, and a new pastor arrives in Courage, Township.

Dove Review

This is the second episode in a planned series of films. In this episode, titled “The Sons of Liberty”, we find that the sons are underground rebel soldiers against officials trying to enforce unpopular law, and that the sons are from a rag-tag group of men who have blemishes on their past lives.

In this episode, the new minister happens to be a womanizer and this side of him eventually is discovered. The pastor and a former burglar who was given a reprieve from hanging eventually have a decision to make.

The film contains enough content that we are awarding it the Dove Seal for ages twelve plus. A man is hanged, although not in a graphic manner for viewers, at the start of the film and another man, a burglar, has a “B” branded onto his forehead. In addition, there are a few sexual innuendos in the film by various characters as well as a pastor who gets to spend time “alone” with a young slave woman, although it is not her wish. The pastor’s ways are, as previously mentioned, eventually brought to light and the Bible is respected in this show, a minister gives a sermon about the kingdom of heaven, and the men are willing to fight for freedom and justice. In another scene a man says he had a vision and saw Christ with nail-scarred hands and thorns on his head. So this one receives our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.
