R.I.P.D. is a movie based upon a comic book series where dead cops come back to life assuming another body to capture or extinguish “deados” in order to save the world from rotting. The word “deados” refers to people who have died but cheat the system and remain on earth. R.I.P.D. officers and “deados” can’t die unless they are shot in the head with a special bullet but do feel the pain of their injuries and accidents.
The film is funny at times such as when Jeff Bridges’ character shoots a “deado” in the rear with a hook on a cable and is taken for a ride through buildings, city streets etc. and is slammed into buildings, run into by cars and trucks and finally taken on a ride through an elevator catapulting in the wrong direction. The story is interesting and action non-stop. However, the language is frequent and foul and the violence is slightly more than we can approve for a family audience. Due to these elements, we are not able to recommend this film for family viewing.
