Synopsis

A drama set in the 1920s, where free-spirited Janie Crawford’s search for happiness leads her through several different marriages, challenging the morals of her small town. Based on the novel by Zora Neale Hurston.

Dove Review

“Their Eyes Were Watching God” was a beautiful movie about a woman who finds out what true love and truly living really is. I thought Halle Berry was fantastic as Janie as she displayed the charm and beauty of a proud, southern woman in the1920’s. Unfortunately, part of the story includes Janie leaving an arranged marriage to marry another man and then also running away and living with her boyfriend after her second husband’s death. Although the movie was pretty clean, the fact that she challenges morality does not allow Dove to give its stamp of approval. The “other” category is listed as a three which keeps this film from being Dove approved.
