Dove Review

This DVD series is a detailed journey of the Old Testament, life and resurrection of Jesus and the Acts of the Apostles in the days of the early church. The stories unfold with cadence and rhythm, drawing in the viewer, not just as an observer of the narrative, but as fellow sojourners through time and faith.

The Old Testament: A myriad of characters are brought to life from Genesis to Malachi; Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David, Elijah and many more. Each account is a weaving of humanity, struggle, defeat and victory as the men and women of the bible seek to serve and know their God. The narrative is rich with the words of Moses, the faith of David and the perseverance of Joseph – with scripture coming to life in each scene.

The Jesus Series: The life of Jesus is told from conception to resurrection. The obedience and humbleness of Mary, struggle of Joseph, Jesus birth, growth, ministry, arrest, crucifixion and his return as a resurrected Christ to his followers and the world are portrayed throughout. The cast of characters and scenery backdrops are woven together to aid in the telling of this greatest of all stories-bringing faith, hope and grace to all who follow the steps and story of Jesus.

Acts of the Apostles: The early days of the church unfold through the apostles at Pentecost and their commission to spread the gospel throughout the whole earth. We see Saul’s quest to eliminate the disciples and squelch the seeds of the church strike fear in the hearts of the early believers. The Spirit of God released upon these humble men and women changed the world one person at a time- continuing yet today.

The Living Bible portrays the retelling of timeless Bible stories with primarily the words of scripture as the narrative. The sound track is weak in places and the film is without the special effects found in modern films. The low tech rendition brings the viewer a sense of watching a Sunday school play or Easter pageant. The simplicity contributes to the age old message of God’s love. It is suitable for all ages and we are pleased to award the Dove Seal to this film.
