“Frozen” is an instant classic! It features wonderful animation and some of the best 3D I have seen in addition to classic fairy tale themes with a twist. Olaf the talking snowman is hilarious. In one scene he is hurdling toward a new town and told not to frighten anyone. He arrives with a hearty “Hello” and instantly we hear the screams of frightened and amazed people, amazed that a snowman actually said “Hello” to them. The scene in the woods with the newly covered ice and snow is breathtaking with its brilliant 3D and makes the viewer feel as if he/she could enter in and walk through the woods.
The film is wholesome but does feature a huge snow monster. I heard a mother talking with her young daughter as they exited the theater at the screening I attended and the mother commented on the daughter being a bit afraid of the snow monster but the girl was fine and didn’t seem to be affected. Still, a word of caution is suggested for very young children.
Kids of all ages, young girls and even the boys, are going to love this romantic yet thrilling adventure/fairy tale with the funny sidekick snowman. The plot involves a princess, Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), and her younger sister Anna (voice of Kristen Bell). Elsa has magic powers that can freeze things and turn warm places into a winter wonderland. She accidentally hit her sister with a magic bolt when they were children and since then has been hiding her abilities from Anna. When their parents meet a tragic end at sea, Elsa is ready to assume the throne as queen but her distant relationship with Anna (to protect her) troubles young Anna. This movie features themes of sacrificial love, friendship and loyalty, in addition to true love, and we are happy to award it our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages.
