“God Came Near” is a powerful and inspiring series of stories and recreations of the first Christmas. It explains the reasons we celebrate it today. Max Lucado is an excellent storyteller. He talks in everyday language while expounding deep and profound spiritual truths from the Bible. He does this in a church setting with candles and beautiful artwork, or while standing outside with an overcoat on. The art and recreation of Biblical scenes including the Nativity and scenes of Joseph and Mary are wonderful and nicely done.
The DVD can be played by hitting “Play All” or by choosing six separate programs. The topics that are covered include the story of Simeon, the man that waited for the birth of the Messiah, as well as the story of the Wise Men, the story of Joseph and Mary, the history of Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus, the birth of Jesus happening in one moment, one normal yet extraordinary night, the hectic holiday, Christmas cookies, and the story of a shoebox. Max includes humorous examples at times in his story telling, including one of his daughter’s hamster Fred getting stuck inside the piano and how he wished he could become a hamster for a moment to guide Fred to freedom! He makes the point that Jesus became a human being so that he might lead us to God. And that Jesus grew in Mary until he had to come out and today he wants to grow in his followers until he has to come out and be seen in them.
This is a fantastic series and we are most pleased to award it our Faith Friendly Seal for all ages. You don’t have to wait until Christmas to enjoy this wonderful DVD! “God Came Near” is an amazing production!
