The Saddle Club: Horse Of A Different Color

A valuable show horse, transported from France, arrives at Pine Hollow with the horse's mysterious owner to arrive later. Amidst all the excitement, Carol begins to believe that her friends in The Saddle Club have forgotten her birthday. When the champion event horse (Hugo) escapes, Carol, Stevie and Lisa take it upon themselves to help find him. The girls find Hugo, unveil their surprise birthday party for Carol, and learn that the horse's owner is none other than French dressage champion Dorothee Doutey. Six months ago she fell in competition and broke her pelvis, but, more importantly, the fall broke her self-confidence and shattered her relationship with horses and Hugo. Dorothee becomes the riding instructor at Pine Hollow, but the lessons she learns from the Saddle Club girls heal her emotional wounds.

Dove Review

Pine Hollow Stables is asked to host Hugo, a champion horse from France, and his beautiful owner Dorothee Doutey. Dorothee is struggling with her future as a competitive rider following a horrible fall just months earlier. Her self-confidence is in tatters and her stay at the farm is intended as a time to heal both inside and out.

Dorothee agrees to be a riding instructor during her stay. She is well intentioned in her desire to improve the skills of the students, but often comes across as harsh and hurtful. The riders at the stable, although struggling with their ability to meet her high expectations, begin to reach out to the hurting former champion and her horse. During the excitement and challenge of Dorothee’s visit, another trial comes to Pine Hollow. Personal items are missing and cantankerous Veronica leads the way in accusing Scooter, an occasional visitor to the farm and friend to Stevie, Lisa and Carole, of stealing.

Amidst the desire to clear Scooter’s name and help the young Frenchwoman heal, friendships and boundaries are tested to the limit. Max, the owner of the stable, is faced with confronting dishonesty and disobedience among his students. Strong values and a commitment to integrity in the midst of hardship is one of several qualities that allow us to recommend this film as a winner for all ages.
