The young orphan girl Heidi is sent to live with her gruff, hermit-like grandfather high in the windswept mountains of Switzerland. Her sweet disposition soon begins to crack the tough exterior of her grandfather and his heart warms toward Heidi. She soon becomes the joy of his heart.
Life is filled with playful goats, her best friend Peter, and her beloved mountains. But her life takes an unexpected turn when she is sent by a cantankerous aunt to live in the city as a companion to Klara, a young crippled girl. Heidi works hard to fit into her new life, but deep inside she longs for the days she once shared with the goats and her grandfather. In the midst of her loneliness, she begins to love Klara and they become special friends. Her sweet spirit once again has an impact on all she encounters. When Heidi has a chance to return to her grandfather, she is torn between her desire to go home and her treasured friend Klara. “Heidi” is a classic childhood story that has endured over time. Heidi’s kindness, love, and playfulness will charm parents and children alike as they enter into the life of a little girl surrounded by mountains. She is respectful to her elders, uses good manners, and is quick to forgive even when experiencing disappointment and betrayal of a friend. She is imaginative and willing to work hard, whether helping with the goats she adores or in the confines of the city. There is much to love in this film and we are delighted to award the Dove Family Approved Seal for viewers of all ages.
