“Pinocchio” is the enduring tale of a wooden puppet who longs to be a real boy. Pinocchio learns through a variety of circumstances what happens to little boys who are not truthful or brave, and who make selfish choices. He is tricked, cheated, lied to, separated from those who love him and kidnapped, all with disastrous results.
When he lies his nose grows longer and he breaks the trust of his loving papa, Geppetto. While he tries hard to do the right thing, Pinocchio is influenced by a group of delinquent boys when he is pressured to skip school and run away to Dunce Land, where “men become boys.” Pinocchio’s life takes a sad twist and he becomes afraid that he may not ever see his home or his Papa again. Throughout the film there are many times Pinocchio gallantly tries to do the right thing and is seen being helpful and kind. However, he struggles at every turn to juggle his deep longing for acceptance and adventure with that of his desire to become a real boy. Jiminy Cricket tries his best to be Pinocchio’s conscience as he teaches him right from wrong and tries to keep him out of harm’s way. Geppetto is a kind and unselfish man who loves his son and wants the best for him. The little wooden puppet’s disobedience has a variety of consequences, as evident when he is turned into a donkey and later swallowed by a whale. There are many fine qualities such as a father’s love, friendship, forgiveness, and perseverance in this time-honored story. We are happy to award it with the Dove Family Approved Seal for all ages.
