Dove Review

“Black Beauty” is a timeless adaptation of the classic tale written by Alice Sewell. A much-loved horse owned by Squire Gordon and his family, Black Beauty falls on hard times when an evil stable worker steals him from the safety of his stable. The beautiful stallion is condemned to a lonely and crushing life underground in England’s dark coal mines. Beauty’s days of freedom are now a distant memory. He experiences the whip for the first time at the hands of a cruel master and longs for his old life with every fiber of his being.

The gentle squire and his children Bertie and Polly miss Beauty terribly. They are determined to find him and bring him home. When all seems lost and hope of finding Beauty is slim, they do not give up. We see determination and bravery despite all odds throughout this charming story of loss and rescue. The children work together to solve the mystery of where Beauty may have been taken.

This colorfully animated film set against the pleasant countryside of 19th century England is woven together with love, determination, courage and kindness. We are delighted to award this lovely feature film the Dove Family Approved Seal for all ages.
