“The Frog Prince,” the ageless story of a prince turned into a frog when he is cursed, takes a twist in this colorfully animated film. Freedom, of course, will only come to the little green amphibian if he is kissed. He believes he has a chance when he encounters the fickle Princess Iria.
Beautiful Iria is fast approaching the age of 18. Kingdom rules require she wed before she reaches this milestone, or she is destined to remain single forever. Iria is rude to all her potential suitors as well as her loving but slightly bumbling father, the king. The little green frog overhears Iria whisper to the moon about her dilemma and decides to trick her into kissing him. It seems to be a good plan until Iria refuses his advances and is reluctant to do as he asks. The story of “The Frog Prince” is charming, but Iria is arrogant, spoiled, cantankerous and disrespectful to her father. She thinks only of herself through most of the film, with a few redeeming moments at the end. She makes friends with the frog, but has a hard time seeing past what he looks like and laughs at him for even suggesting she feel any different. This classic tale of a prince turned into a frog who loves a beautiful girl has its redeeming moments. We award this spirited film the Dove Family Approved Seal for viewers of all ages.
