When the story begins, David is a mere shepherd boy. He is a lad of uncommon courage. But no one imagines that he will someday become king of Israel--no one, that is, except God. And so David must prove himself. He does so by single-handedly defeating Goliath--a giant who has been terrorizing God's chosen people. Later, David faces an even greater challenge. But his faith in the Lord allows him to overcome all obstacles. Eventually he takes his rightful place on the throne.

Dove Review

This wonderful story of King David is well done and accurately portrayed! Featuring an introduction by legendary actor Charlton Heston, this animated movie is a quality product all the way. Heston comments that, with the possible exception of Moses, no other mortal man was as great as David.

David’s story is presented here from beginning to end, including his selection as the next king of Israel by God and the prophet Samuel. We see David tending and protecting his sheep, standing up to the giant Goliath and defeating him, playing his harp for King Saul, hiding in caves from Saul and his jealousy, and ultimately ascending to the throne. His defeat of the Jebusites and taking of Jerusalem is mentioned, and to this day it is known as the City of David.

David is a clear example of how God chooses those who surprise others. David’s own brothers only saw a younger brother, a keeper of the sheep. But God saw a king in David. He became a king who ruled for forty years. We are pleased to award this wonderful movie our Dove Seal for all ages. Watch this film and see King David come to life!
