“Christmas on Highway 101” features the musical group Highway 101, and they make “a joyful noise” through their splendid and energetic Christmas music. The group consists of Cactus Moser, Nikki Nelson, Curtis Stone, and Andy Gurley. The drums, guitars, bass, and fiddle—and Nikki’s fabulous vocals—are merged to bring the viewer wonderful renditions of “Joy to the World,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “The Christmas Song,” “O Holy Night” and others.
The members also reminisce about their Christmases as kids and share some of their favorite memories. Cactus talks about how he loves the Christmas lights displayed right after Thanksgiving. Nikki Nelson shares a story about her son Keith who, when he was about five, wanted to know why they were all getting gifts when it was Jesus’ birthday! The other band members share memories too, and old home movies are interspersed throughout.
Shared memories include mention of a surprise visit by Santa Claus that made one of the band members cry because he was “wearing Daddy’s shoes!” Wynonna Judd also shows up in the video to say hello.
This is an energetic movie filled with Christmas memories that people will relate to, and some of the finest music ever heard. We are pleased to award “Christmas on Highway 101” our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages. Don’t just play this one at Christmas; enjoy it and be inspired any old time!
