“The Imperials” is a celebration of the gospel singing group that formed in 1964 and just celebrated fifty years of worship and songs. They are featured at a concert in Texas and are at their best while harmonizing, singing a few solos, and making use of musicians on keyboard, drums, guitar, fiddle, and background singers.

The songs include one about still standing but not standing still, standing by the power, and the Promised Land, plus “No Shortage,” “God’s Got Something Good For Me” and many more. The rousing finale is “Good Old Gospel Ship.” There are a few clips of interviews, along with some interesting facts. One is that the Imperials recorded two gospel albums with Elvis Presley, and of Elvis’ three Grammy Awards, two of them were with The Imperials: “How Great Thou Art” and “He Touched Me.” Also, the Imperials became the first interracial gospel group when Sherman Andrus joined them for a time in 1972.

The group’s experience really shows as they nail each song with a professional talent that is not often seen. Several of their album covers are displayed in the video.
