“Shadow Government” is an eye-opener! Based on the book by Grant R. Jeffrey, the film looks at today’s surveillance as it relates to just about every technological device imaginable: cell phones, computers, GPS devices, ATM machines, etc. The tracking capabilities in today’s world and via internet search engines are amazing and scary.
Experts, including the author, chime in regarding the monitoring practices of our government and a number of businesses. Dr. Katherine Albrecht, founder and director of Caspian Consumer Privacy and co-author of “Spy Chips,” warns that surveillance can potentially cause great problems for Americans and could do away with privacy. She mentions Stalin’s regime and how citizens’ mail could be opened as an example.
We follow a character named John Wilson, who has his credit card compromised and receives a call from Homeland Security. He has to answer questions about his involvement with pro-life groups and his church membership. The “Big Brother” image portrayed is shockingly frightening.
The film makes use of memorable images, archived film footage, and interviews, and presents a plausible glimpse into the future. The author points people to the accuracy of the Bible, including Daniel’s prophecy about knowledge being increased in the last days. He encourages his audience to look to Christ. We are pleased to award this thought-provoking film our “Faith-Friendly” Seal for ages twelve plus. “Shadow Government” reminds us that although the government may be lurking closer than we realize, God is nearer to us and an ever-present help.
