“Christianity And Islam” offers a thorough look at, as well as insights into, the basic differences and similarities between Christianity and Islam. Featuring biblical scholar Dr. Timothy George, Dean of Beeson Divinity School, and Islam experts such as Dr. Amina Wadud, associate professor at the University of Virginia Commonwealth, the experts analyze various doctrines, with passages from the Koran and the Holy Bible examined and explained.
The documentary is divided into four sections: 1. What is Islam? 2. Trinity; 3. Scripture and Incarnation; 4. Cross and Salvation. Each expert speaks as to the Christian view and Islamic view. Dr. George makes the case that Christ was divine, not just a prophet as the Muslims view him. Dr. George outlines five reasons to believe Jesus is divine: 1. He spoke as one having authority; 2. He had power over demons; 3. The family relationship, because Christ said he and the Father were one; 4. His ability to forgive sins; 5. He received worship. Dr. George argues that man needs salvation and only Christ provides it. This is in comparison to the Islamic teaching that obedience to God is the main focus.
The film does a good job examining carefully the differences between the doctrines of the Koran and the Bible. All viewers of this fascinating study should walk away with a better understanding of what both teach.
