Dove Review

Martin Luther was known to many as a simple man, but he greatly affected the world. During his life, he condemned the excesses and corruption he observed within the church. Luther was often pained to the breaking point, as he wrestled with his own humanity and search for God’s acceptance. He questioned his worth, value and ability to serve God on a level that he felt was unattainable for his own struggling soul.

In 1517, Luther penned a document that attacked the Catholic Church’s corrupt practice of selling “indulgences” to absolve sin. His “95 Theses” addressed two primary areas of faith: First, he addressed his conviction that the Bible is the only sovereign authority of God, and secondly, that man reaches salvation only through faith and not by deeds. He publicly took a stand against the practices of the church and sparked the Protestant Reformation.

Although others had previously considered his ideas, Martin Luther brought them to the forefront at a time in history that was ripe for reformation. At the time, the Catholic Church became divided, and Luther’s ideas were influential enough to reform the church.

His journey of faith affected an entire society hundreds of years ago and has been influential on a global scale both in his day and in the modern world. This comprehensive documentary traces the steps of Luther — humble man, anguished searcher, one time monk, dedicated husband and great reformer — through brilliant footage from the 2003 film “Luther.” Interviews with experts on his life work further explore the journey of this multi-faceted man.

We are pleased to approve this fine work for viewers of all ages.
