Staying with someone you don’t really know is never easy, especially if the person you’re staying with is a parent who has not seen you since you were one year old. Priscilla, now a teenager, is being shipped off to her father’s, a man she doesn’t remember and has not heard from in years. The upside to the trip is that she still gets to take her horse, because her father, Duke, has a horse ranch in Michigan. But will the girl from New England be able to fit in with the group in these new surroundings and learn to love her father?
This charming story offers lessons about not jumping to conclusions and believing in yourself no matter what age you are. Parents often struggle to understand and get along with their teenage children. Imagine having to raise a teenager you haven’t seen in years. Nevertheless, Duke and Priscilla learn a lot about each other. She has been trained in jumping horses, and her father lives in an area where people love rodeos, so that helps them find common ground. Additionally, they both are afraid to lose. Ultimately, though, Duke does love her and wants her to do her best. We are proud to award it our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12 and up, due to one scene with language.
