“Bible Idiots” is a remarkable film — compelling, relevant, and funny all at the same time. The film focuses on the father/son comedy team of Chris and Jake Danielson and features quotes from various leaders in the Christian world, including Dr. Erwin Lutzer, Joni Eareckson Tada, and Jim Daly, president of Focus on the Family. Additionally, questions are asked of people on the street concerning their views on God and Scripture. As Steve Biondo, the vice president of Family Christian Bookstores, says, “The church in America is in trouble.” He believes too many leaders are abandoning their faith and not standing for the truth of Scripture.
Conversely, Chris Danielson shares his love for God and humor and talks about the time on radio when he said, “We will be right back with Dr. James Dobson and Pokus on the Fanny!” (Instead of, of course, Focus on The Family). His son Jake is shown in snippets of his comedy act and always keeps Christians and funny moments in mind. Yet Jake shares a gut-wrenching testimony about a man coming up to him after a show, in tears, and saying his terminally ill daughter, in a wheelchair, had laughed more that night than she ever had before.
Various people give their views on the inspiration of Scripture, the question of whether there is only one true religion, and the Bible’s accuracy. One man, a former Muslim named Abdu, now a converted Christian, says that “people that rise from the dead have credibility!”
This documentary has credibility, too. It features people whose lives have been changed, and they give God, Christ, and the Bible the credit for it. Are they idiots for Christ? If so, they proudly wear the badge! We are happy to award “Bible Idiots” our best rating, five Doves, and our “Faith-Friendly” Seal for ages 12-plus. If you want to enjoy a thought-provoking film that is also funny and entertaining, this is the one!
