Moana has been raised on the Pacific Island of Motunui. She has always heard the legend about Tefiti and Maui. In the tale, Maui took Tefiti’s heart (a glowing green stone) and in a fight that followed with an evil lava monster, Maui lost his magic “hook.” Because of the stories she heard, Moana has always been drawn to the ocean. But because of some curse her overprotective father, the chief of the people on the island, believes in he forbids anyone from going past the reef.
As Moana grows so does her desire the go past the reef, so when fishing dwindles and the coconuts turn bad, she tries to convince her father and the tribe to go past the reef to fish. But she is turned down, so Moana, with the help of her grandmother, discovers the secret of their tribe: they were “voyagers”. Her adventure begins when the ocean picks her to go on a quest to return Tefiti’s heart that was stolen by a demigod named Maui. This is a charming story of growing up, following your dreams and believing in yourself. We want you to be aware that there is a fantasy legend of Tefiti having great power—so much that she created life itself, but this film is clearly based upon a legend. “Moana” is a fantasy adventure for young and old alike. We are proud to award the Dove Family-Approved Seal for all ages to this film.
