Dove Review

Here is a cute, coming-of-age animated movie about, well, coming of age—to turn into a monster, that is! Lucas has been protected by his father all these years from the family secret. When the truth comes out, his dad has to explain that he just wanted to keep Lucas safe. But Lucas wants and needs to find out the truth for himself.

Here is a wonderful story about the relationship between parents and children interwoven with the themes of showing others respect and good versus evil. Along with this charming tale is the lesson of how being a bully and making fun of others just because they are different is hurtful. At times it may be scary for very young children—it is a story about monsters—although it shows the other side of the creature that is just like everyone one else, loving and kind.

We award “Monster Island” with the Dove Family Approval for all ages.
