Justin is diagnosed with a debilitating illness which leaves him wheelchair-bound, and Patrick’s selfless commitment to his buddy only intensifies. So, when Justin suggests a tumultuous 500-mile pilgrimage across the El Camino de Santiago in Europe, Patrick doesn’t hesitate to say I’ll Push You. This film documents their journey as they navigate grueling physical challenges, as well as facing mortality and emotional baggage.

These two friends are simply inspiring. Patrick’s commitment to his friend is a stunning example of loyalty you don’t see often these days. Justin’s positive, optimistic attitude even during such difficult circumstances will leave you in awe and perhaps elicit some self-examination. Along the way, this pair meets many good Samaritans willing to help them on the trail, and it’s refreshing to see so much kindness and diligence. The community that forms around Justin and Patrick’s friendship is a beautiful picture of unity in action.

Throughout the film we see photos, stories, and interviews from relatives and friends which give weight to Justin and Patrick’s story. At points there is understandable frustration, remarkable physical challenges to the point of exhaustion, and tons of emotion. And although there isn’t a very overt faith message, the product of I’ll Push You is a documentary with heart and soul, which warms the heart and motivates it to action.
