Having never seen Paddington (2014), I wasn’t sure what to expect from “Paddington 2.” It didn’t take long for myself (and all the children in the theatre) to fall absolutely in love with Paddington Bear’s beautiful spirit and charming personality.
Well-meaning, often clumsy, and a little naïve, Paddington is thoroughly enjoying his new life in London with the Brown family. His eccentric, loving family is a perfect fit, and Paddington has no trouble adjusting to Windsor Gardens. His authentic love and kindness are irresistible, and Paddington makes friends wherever he goes. However, trouble begins to arise for the young bear when he sets out to find Aunt Lucy the perfect 100th birthday gift. Unknowingly entangled in a dastardly plot, framed and sent to the pokey, Paddington manages to make the best of a dreadful situation while trying to clear his name. This little bear is inspirational and delightful! Paddington’s exuberance is the star of this film. Ben Whishaw does a fantastic job as the voice of Paddington, drawing in viewers and giving life to the only animated character in the film. Hugh Grant shines as Phoenix Buchanan, the conceited and comical mastermind behind the twisted scheme that launches Paddington’s world into disarray. Laughs are plenteous in this film, with each scene bringing something new to giggle at. From Paddington’s frequent misfortunes, to Mr. Buchanan’s antics and the Brown family’s investigation, the film is never boring—always engaging. This children’s film manages something most adult films can’t do: Paddington 2 is silly, but serious when it needs to be and balances perfectly heartfelt emotion with good old fun. The plot is both entertaining and meaningful, inspiring us to live optimistically and remain true to what is good and right, regardless of our circumstances. Created in signature style, this fantastical adventure will transport you to the whimsical, enriching world of Paddington bear; a world where you can see the good in anyone if you just look, and any problem can be solved with a bit of orange marmalade. Treat yourself and family to this clever adventure and catch Paddington’s contagious positivity. We are pleased to award Paddington 2 the Dove Seal of Approval for All Ages.
