Jake’s family is falling apart. They argue and fight while the boys rebel against their micromanaging mother. Jake’s father passed away from a mysterious disease two years ago, and it seems like the whole family still needs to heal. When Jake finds a dinosaur in his room, it is the start of a sci-fi adventure that helps the family realize just how much they need and love each other.
My Pet Dinosaur emphasizes the value of life as the film explores the antagonist’s misguided perception of sacrificing a few to save many. Lines are obviously crossed and Jake and his friends rally bravely against the offender. This question of sacrificing a few for a greater number is a tricky one—and the answer often lies in a moral grey area. But in this case, My Pet Dinosaur shows a situation where the evil antagonist clearly does not value life and is opposed by those that do. Dove.org awards My Pet Dinosaur with the Ages 12+ Seal of Approval.
