Synopsis

The Dove Take

Not Dove-Approved, this superfluous iteration of a classic baffles us as to why the studio was even compelled to make it.

Dove Review

The Dove Review

Amidst delightful actors bringing to life the old characters in new ways, we are left wondering if this studio had money lying around that it needed to burn. The 2018 attempt to retell the old, sweet tale is filled with overdone violence, evil church leaders, and banal dialogue.

Content Description

Faith: Negative portrayal of religious leaders
Integrity: Robin Hood and his team fight to stop evil; Robin is motivated to live and to grow because of his love for Marian.
Sex: Passionate embraces, woman presumably lives with men out of wedlock
Language: Uses of God's name, once with d**n; s**t; p*ss
Violence: Oodles of violence, impaling, beheading and torturing
Drugs: Several scenes with alcohol, one particularly raucous Vegas/Gatsby-style party
Nudity: Lots of cleavage
Other: People treated as slaves, the Catholic Church is the evil cause of all the trouble
