Dove Review

The Synopsis:

As Hiccup fulfills his dream of creating a peaceful dragon utopia, Toothless’ discovery of an untamed, elusive mate draws the Night Fury away. When danger mounts at home and Hiccup’s reign as village chief is tested, both dragon and rider must make impossible decisions to save their kind.

The Review:

“Odin be spanked!” is a line from the movie– making it a fun one to watch! It’s incredibly enjoyable, and I was honestly surprised at how fresh this film is considering this is number three in the series. It takes our heroes to the next level and there is a “graduation” type of feeling to it at the climax and conclusion of the picture. The characters grow, a new and sneering villain, Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham) is a force to be reckoned with, and the laughs are plentiful. Even the beloved dragon, Toothless, finds love in the form of a female dragon.

Jay Baruchel is back as Hiccup and America Ferrera returns as his beloved Astrid. Grimmel wants all of the dragons at his disposal and Hiccup formulates a plan to take them to a “hidden world” his father once spoke of, a place where they would be safe. He courageously tells his people that wherever they are together will be home, not the land where they presently reside. But Grimmel is cunning; he is determined to follow them and capture all the dragons. Will Hiccup, Astrid and their people find the hidden land? Will Toothless find a lasting love? Will Hiccup and Astrid marry? Rest assured all of these questions are answered in the movie.

The importance of taking chances, rolling with changes, and reaching one’s potential are nicely featured in the film. And the laughs are enjoyable, such as when Hiccup hides in the background to show Toothless just how to prance around in front of the lady dragon he likes in order to impress her. The film incorporates scenes of intense battles, but none is graphic, so we are awarding the movie our Dove Seal for All Ages.
