This imaginative series features remarkable animation and realistic characters with faces so lifelike! The main character is, of course, Angela Anaconda, an elementary schoolgirl with lots of opinions as well as friends. She can’t stand the girl with the French name, Nanette, a fake who always tries to please the teacher, Mrs. Brinks, to get her own way. In one episode, Nanette wants to go to the ballet for the class trip, while Angela wants to go to the monster truck rally! Since the top fundraiser gets to decide, Nanette uses all sorts of tricks to get her way—going so far as to underhandedly sell pastries to Angela’s mother!
The four episodes in this series are Pet Peeves, Rat Heroes, Ice Breakers and You’re So Vain. Kids will relate to this series as it definitely portrays kids as they are—kind, but good schemers trying to get what they want, and occasionally direct, saying what they really think. But they ice skate, get into disagreements, tell a “comet vomit” joke, and admit when they’ve done wrong. When Mrs. Brinks believes Angela’s poem about her beloved pet dog is about her, Angela has to confess to the truth, even though it’s difficult to do.
There are a few scenes of name-calling, but there is nothing over the top in the content area, so we are awarding this film our Dove-Approved Seal for All Ages. The series makes the point that being “real” and down to earth are great qualities.
The Dove Take
