Dove Review

Heathcliff & The Catillac Cats is a lovable animated series featuring the likable but scheming Heathcliff the cat, who can always figure out a way to make sure his fellow cats and he come out of messy situations smelling like roses. The two episodes in this film are: The Great Pussini and Chauncey’s Great Escape. In the first episode, Heathcliff is jealous of the great musician and celebrity, Pussini, who has taken a liking to the female cat that Heathcliff likes. She calls Pussini “dreamy.”

Heathcliff is so jealous that he scratches up the poster of the Great Pussini. Heathcliff attempts to sing, to give Pussini some competition, but his friends tell Heathcliff that he doesn’t sing bad, but “not good!” However, no matter how many attempts Heathcliff tries to get rid of Pussini, like throwing some dynamite near him, it just doesn’t work. The dynamite bounces back and explodes near Heathcliff! And when Heathcliff follows the love birds into the Tunnel of Love, it isn’t love that he finds!

Heathcliff also has to find Cleo, when Cleo is taken to the kennels by Cleo’s owners. Heathcliff plans to rescue Cleo. In the episode titled Chauncey’s Great Escape, one of the few dogs Heathcliff likes, Chauncey, is captured by the dog catcher, so Heathcliff plans a “great escape!” The adventures are outrageous but Heathcliff’s heart is in the right place.

We award this animated series our Dove-Approved Seal for All Ages. The fantasy violence is not gratuitous and it’s a good time to be had for the viewer!
