47 Meters Down: Uncaged

The Dove Take:

This shark fan sequel offers an even better underwater thrill than the original 47 Meters Down, but particular scare scenes, violent clips and evolutionary themes are cause for concern.

Dove Review

The Synopsis:

Four teen girls diving in a ruined underwater city quickly learn they’ve entered the territory of the deadliest shark species in the claustrophobic labyrinth of submerged caves.

The Review:

Mandy Moore’s starring role in the original 47 Meters Down left sequel-goers ready for the big plot twist that never plays out in 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. However, this go-round, shark fans receive a much bigger thrill that leaves viewers screaming, “Who’s next?!”

Mia (Sophie Nelisse) has a hard time fitting in with her new stepsister, Sasha (Corinne Foxx), and Sasha’s best friends at school: Nicole (Sistine Stallone) and Alexa (Brianne Tju). Eventually, Sasha invites Mia to tag along on one of their secretive adventures, and when Alexa suggests that the girls sneak scuba gear and explore a new underwater Mayan excavation site, Mia and the gang follow along.

Hyped on their rebellious independence, the girls don’t realize that these underwater ruins are also home to a breed of blind, cave-swimming, great white sharks—until it’s too late. In a state of panic, the girls kick up too much silt and lose their sense of direction. Trapped in a cave full of mazes, they must band together to reach the surface and escape these underwater monsters—all before they run out of air.

Each dead-end has viewers on the edge of their seats, waiting for a twisted, underwater version of Russian Roulette that isn’t appropriate for Dove approval, though moviegoers under the age 18 might find it entertaining.
