The Review:
The trailer for Brittany Runs A Marathon delivers a lot more promise than we found sitting through the whole film. Jillian Bell is fantastic, and the characters are all well performed. In the story, Brittany has to figure out through both healthy and unhealthy relationships (some becoming the other), what she wants to be when she grows up.
But I had to apologize to my husband part way through the movie, not only because of the offensive content, but because it didn’t deliver a single surprise or fresh thought. We do cheer Brittany on as she faces down her demons, and her strength becomes admirable. But in the end, this movie is just a trashy-but-compassionate and sweet story of three (ok, four) friends that could be two episodes in an Amazon original series. That one where she runs a marathon. This film is not Dove-Approved.
