Dove Review

The Synopsis:

The beloved characters of Frozen set out on a new adventure to find the origin of Elsa’s powers and once again save their Arendelle kingdom.

The Review

When a strong wind forces the Arendelle people to flee the kingdom, Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel), Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell), Kristoff (voiced by Jonathan Groff), Sven and Olaf (voiced by Josh Gad) travel to the enchanted forest to help save their homeland. Guided by a chanting voice in the wind, Elsa must use her powers to pass through the forest mist and enter the magical land her father spoke of years ago.

Once in the enchanted forest, the group meets Arendellian soldiers and the Northuldra people who have been trapped there for ages. Along the way, Elsa and Anna discover truth about their parents and grandfather that sheds a new light on their family’s past. Elsa realizes she must use her powers to help save the people and sets off alone, sending Anna and Olaf away to protect them.

Elsa encounters danger as she seeks to find answers. Anna and Olaf also experience troubles of their own as they try to protect Elsa. Forced to make a difficult decision, Anna must do something that could destroy Arendelle. As in the first movie, love and loyalty are strong themes throughout the film. There are moments of laughter (especially involving Olaf and Sven), fright, sadness and warm fuzzies all around. Anna and Kristoff’s romance continues in this film. But will there be a happy ending?

Frozen II will delight the whole family as it continues the story of Elsa and Anna. As in the original, this film has breathtaking animation that will draw you into the story. You will once again fall in love with all the characters and enjoy singing the songs (though parents will be happy to hear that the tunes are not as catchy as “Let It Go”). The film includes some frightening and sad scenes which may be hard for young ones to watch. They may also find the plot difficult to follow and hold their attention. Though Frozen II is definitely worth watching until the end, and if you can sit through the long credits there is a bonus scene featuring Olaf. This movie is sure to warm the hearts of everyone and earns our Dove-Approved Seal for All Ages.
