Dove Review

If you’re one of those who constantly fidgets with the remote control, unable to watch any one show for more than four or five minutes at a time before the urge to change channels overpowers you, then AMBO TV’s In-Studio Discussion was made for you. You need not fidget with the remote control; this show changes the channel for you.

The show brings sermons from “next-generation pastors from across the nation,” who bring “a fresh, new style to the Word of God.” It is hosted by Dean Windsor, who fashions himself as a hip-hop “Host for the Holy Ghost.” Like the diverse pastors the show features, Windsor is young — not a gray hair in sight. The name of the show, however, has an old feel to it — “Ambo” comes from the early church practice of delivering sermons from a platform referred to as an ambo.

Windsor is relatable if for no other reason than he is quick to admit his struggles with things about which pastors tend to preach. The format is pretty straightforward: Windsor is joined in studio by a guest pastor and they take segments from three sermons and use them as launching points for their own discussions. Each snippet lasts about four to five minutes, and then Windsor and the host elaborate on the subject before quickly moving to the next sermon and repeating the process. It follows this pattern: Introduction, Sermon A, discussion with guest pastor, segueway to Sermon B, discussion, segueway to Sermon C, discussion, back to Sermon A … rinse, lather, repeat. One minute you’re listening to a snippet from Montana, the next it could be New York. Or Georgia.

They’re easy to receive and easy to find, if you know how to navigate YouTube. In a way, it’s almost like you’re getting three sermons for the price of one. Anything that encourages people to receive the Word of God should be lauded, even if it isn’t delivered in the manner you’re accustomed to, for God has many ways of relating to His many sheepfolds. As such, this show merits Dove-approval for All Ages.

The Dove Take:

The Word of God is delivered in stick-and-move style, in bite-sized chunks that make it digestible for all. Attention spans are optional.
