Glitterbugs is a series of whimsical animated short stories that invite young viewers into the mysterious world of the marsh. Beneath the blades of grass we meet Joe Croaker, Cosmo, Bartleby, McBroom, and other six-legged friends who demonstrate the daily struggles of bug life.
Pine Moth caterpillar passes through the marsh, and as he greets the residents with a cheerful hello, he also warns them that a heavy rain is coming. The residents of the marsh look up to the blazing sunshine and decide to disregard Pine Moth’s warning. But just when he finds shelter with McBroom the dung beetle, the rains come down hard. The insects are in amazement and wonder how Pine Moth was able to predict the weather.
The next day, Pine Moth warns the marsh of another storm that is coming. This one, he says, will be much stronger. Most of the insects heed Pine Moth’s warning, but Joe Croaker, the resident frog, still doesn’t believe in the prediction and ends up getting caught up in the storm and tossed around by the winds.
Another short story reveals the power of the tiny flea and reminds the viewer that though he might not appear to be fearsome, his legs are very strong and help him to jump high into the sky, beating Joe Croaker in a jumping contest.
The insect friends of the marsh discover the power of teamwork through several short stories, as well as the value of each insect’s unique abilities, even within the same species.
After several segments, the video cuts to a quick summary of the lessons learned by the busy bugs and highlights a scientific principle or interesting insect fact, making this film Dove-approved for All Ages.
