Bee Geniuses: Buzz Mania is an educational film from the perspective of two young bees’ intent to learn more about their species and others like them. The movie consists of four different adventures in which Sunny and Petal must discover pertinent information for the future generation of bees. Queen Buttercup gives them a quick debriefing for each mission and a “Bee Smart Question” to answer along the way and then sends them to meet their adventure guide, Captain Billy Bee.
While the film is well made and full of great information, some of the language used is too advanced for young learners. For example, phrases such as “lush foliage” and “run a foul” are used throughout the movie. It also used advanced medical terms such as “anaphylactic” and “antibiotic.” Parents should be prepared to help their children understand what these words mean and how they impact the lives of others.
The movie itself is a bit repetitive. Before each mission it almost looks like the director used the same scenes and just changed the words around a little bit. The queen describes each mission as their most challenging mission yet and the introduction for Captain Billy Bee is the same for all four missions. And, in addition to this, the audio doesn’t always line up with the characters’ mouths.
Overall, Bee Geniuses: Buzz Mania is a great movie for parents to show to their children. It will not only be very interesting to them, but it will teach them many great facts about bees and the environment.
