For viewers who are familiar with the male movie version of elves, namely Elf, along comes a movie with a female elf to be the heroine, namely Elfette. She is that classic sincere character of many literary stories, such as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
The movie opens innocently enough with beautifully captured Christmas scenes, snow at the North Pole, candy canes, and elves. Elfette, a package wrapper, is busy working hard, but her supervisor lets her know that she has to finish all of her work by the next day. Elfette takes a quick look at vacation spots on the internet. She is obviously overworked with the Christmas holiday just ahead.
One of the main plots of the movie is that Santa plans to deliver a lot of Pencil PC’s on Christmas, a pencil that not only writes but can be used as a phone or for internet access. However, the leaders of Joy Tech Z are planning on making a huge profit on them at Christmastime, selling them like the proverbial hotcakes at $999 a pop. When they learn of Santa’s intentions, they decide the only way to make their big profit is to kidnap Santa! A lady named Penelope, the CEO of Joy Tech Z, hires a man named Georgie to capture Santa so their dreams of avarice can come true.
A call goes out to Elfette for her help to rescue Santa, and she humbly replies that, “I’m just the wrapping paper designer.” But, as with many classic characters, her humble and kind spirit is just what is needed to stumble through many roadblocks in order to see Santa reclaimed for kids everywhere, both small and big.
There are a few scenes we need to mention in reference to family viewing: namely guns or rifles are held on characters such as Santa and the elves. And an elf named Sparkle is actually shot in the shoulder! However, other than the threat of violence, there is little as far as graphic scenes of violence. However, the h-word and b-word are both used once.
Due to the positive change in several characters, we present our Dove seal for Ages 12+ to the movie.
The Dove Take:
This movie puts a new spin on a Christmas story, but many viewers will appreciate the hero being a lady elf!
