Dove Review

Boonie Bears is a unique and funny animated series which features the grumpy Vick who, despite his cranky disposition, still knows how to play a few games with the bears. The episode opens with a bear getting up after a long hibernation doze. The sun is shining, the daffodils dazzle, the birds are flying, and the nectar is flowing. Vick is fanning himself with a small electric fan on what is turning out to be a scorching hot day. Then, suddenly, the fan quits working. He is hot while the bears, in contrast, are eating honey and enjoying the day.

Vick plays a game with the bears and attempts to relax on a floating device on the water. But then the bliss ends when his boss calls, demanding that Vick gets back to work and cuts more lumber. The bears are not happy and are determined that Vick has cut down his last tree. His boss does send a fan to help keep Vick cool while he works but the bears make it difficult, throwing various objects at Vick. The battle to preserve the forest is on! This is a short episode, with lots of action packed into it. The viewer will have to check it out to see how it will conclude.

In another episode, Snow Daze, poor old Vick is now dealing not with the heat, but the cold. Brrrrr! It’s extremely cold. Vick has a fall but is okay, and he winds up cutting lumber again but Bramble and Briar work on a project with Vick. Bramble even cares for Vick when Vick winds up sick with a fever. He makes noodles for Vick. In a light moment, a piece of wood falls on Bramble’s foot and he howls with pain “Ow! Ow!” It’s played for laughs and the exaggerated moment is comedic for sure.

In another scene, Vick reaches for a movie ticket underneath Bramble while Bramble is sleeping, and Bramble thinks Vick is trying to steal it. So, they have a misunderstanding which needs to be cleared up. But they decide they want to go to the movies.

Some nice themes are on display in this episode including friendship, forgiveness, and helping one another. The episodes definitely have earned our Dove seal for All Ages.
