When Stevie comes to town, she spells bad news for Claire and Tess. Stevie steals Claire’s jewels, and hides them in the basement. Tess goes in to the hospital and the doctor runs tests to see if she has cancer. The results show she does not have cancer. Alex and Claire take their romantic relationship to the next level when Alex shows Jake a ring and tells him the is going to ask Claire to marry him. He moves into the ranch and they throw a party to celebrate. When the alpacas get sick, Stevie treats them, but Tess gets angry that she was not informed. Stevie leaves town and Claire and Tess try to get on managing the ranch. When Tess, Claire and Claire’s baby Charlotte go into town to go to the store, they hit a bump in the road and their truck gets stuck on a cliff. Tess gets free and saves baby Charlotte just before the truck goes over the cliff, killing Claire. Claire’s mom and family get the news and mourn her loss.
The episode features a white horse, which is symbolic of some hard times coming the family’s way. When Tess first sees this horse in her dream, she sees it as a sign that her biopsy will reveal cancer and she will have to emulate the horse’s strength and agility as she learns to adapt. Little does Tess know that strength will not be needed for a cancer diagnosis, but instead for the strength to mourn her sister’s death.
This episode is jam-packed with drama, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Lisa Chappel and Bridie Carter deliver stellar performances, and audiences feel for Claire’s love interest Alex as he mourns this devastating loss. This episode has mild language including one bad word as well as some suggestive dialogue. Tess says she’s tired of hearing “the creaky floorboard in their bedroom” and asks why they don’t move in together. The scene of Claire’s death features disturbing images and some blood, which may be sensitive for younger viewers. This earns this episode a 2 for some violent content. Having said all this this episode earns the Dove award seal for viewers ages 12 and up.
