Connor (David Shawn McConnell), needs a tutor for his daughter, someone who can travel with him and 10-year-old Macey (Scarlett Hazen) during the summer break. But the array of applicants, none of which are suitable, is leaving him concerned and frustrated.
Amber (Sashleigha Hightower), a lonely schoolteacher, is not looking forward to the long summer without her students. Teaching is her life and now what to do? When her sister Candice (Shae Robins) suggests a tutoring job for a 10-year-old, Amber reluctantly agrees to meet with Connor and Macey … and she is hired! It’s off to Aruba for the summer!
As devoted as Connor is to his daughter, his work is demanding and preoccupying, and Amber is beginning to see the missing pieces in their lives. But first, can it please be less awkward between Connor and Amber?? Connor confesses he doesn’t know where the line is…what’s acceptable, what isn’t. After his wife left their home and abandoned their daughter, he’s been elusive and unsure and cautious. Amber suggests removing the guarded behavior and “let’s just talk naturally …”
When Macey confesses all her other teachers have children who are very lucky, because “their mothers want them,” Amber is emotionally moved by this little girl’s sadness and feels compelled to fill the void and bring Macey and her dad closer together. When he misses his surprise birthday dinner because of a late-night meeting, Amber takes matters into her own hands and, much to Macey’s delight, makes a surprise birthday breakfast the next morning! As Amber gently fills the gap in Connor and Macey’s life, they are all enjoying being together and having fun discovering Aruba’s beautiful beaches and exotic animals.
As they spend more time together, Connor is coming out of his protectiveness, and is seeing Amber in a different light. As he confesses to Amber that he feels inadequate in raising Macey, they share an intimate kiss that Connor verbally regrets and leaves Amber shaken.
An emotional plea from Macey forces Connor to face his fears and reevaluate his feelings for Amber and the life he wants for Macey and himself. But is it too late to save a relationship that Amber has given up on?
