From Justin to Kelly
This tale of two American idols, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini, makes a jump to the big screen in this romantic teen musical. Kelly (Clarkson) is working in a Texas bar serving local jerks when her friends, Alexa (Katherine Bailess) and Kaya (Anika Noni Rose) convince her to use her vacation to get away and have some fun in Miami, Florida. When they arrive there, Alexa and Kaya want to party and meet guys, but Kelly just isn’t into those things. Soon, a trio of college guys from Pennsylvania, the “Pennsylvania Posse,” arrives at the beach. Justin (Guarini) and Brandon (Greg Siff) are “party promoters” and Eddie (Brian Dietzen), the nerd of the trio, has come along for the ride to meet a girl he’s been talking to on the Internet.
Five of the six major characters in the film develop a relationship with someone of the opposite sex. Brandon connects with a local female beach police officer that seems to be ready to write him a ticket for everything he does wrong. Eddie searches all week for his “Internet sweetie.” Kaya hooks up with a local waiter named Carlos. Alexa wants love, but can’t seem to find a guy who will love her instead of wanting sex from her (of course, it doesn’t help that she throws herself at guys). Then Kelly meets Justin. It’s instant attraction. All is well in the beginning, but then circumstances (manipulated by a jealous Alexa) keep them apart for most of the Spring Break week. Will true love win in the end? You’ll have to go see the movie for yourself to find out the answer to that question.
